This Autumn, Shajiabang Brews “Chinese Charm” into a “Global Delight”

On October 14th, Shajiabang hosted an extraordinary “international gathering” —over 40 foreign guests from around the world set aside cultural barriers and immersed themselves in the authentic rhythms of local life.

They swayed to the rustic melodies of Wan folk songs, savored the bold artistry of Peking Opera Shajiabang, marveled at the delicate storytelling of Suzhou Pingtan, and gasped at the lightning-fast transformations of Sichuan face-changing.

Yet Shajiabang’s hospitality goes beyond mere sights and sounds:
⚪ At the “Crab Feast for All,” plump hairy crabs, steeped in autumn’s richness, let visitors taste “China’s seasonal flavors.”
⚪ Drifting through reed marshes on hand-rowed boats, their oars parted not just water but also unlocked imaginations of Jiangnan’s dreamy waterways.
⚪ The Reed Culture Week Art Exhibition became Shajiabang’s “open letter to the world,” where every piece whispered tales of heritage.

Here, language faded—the warmth of traditions, the aroma of food, and the poetry of landscapes spoke a universal tongue.

If the 14th was about “the world discovering Shajiabang,” the 15th flipped the script: Shajiabang stepped onto the global stage.

“Lens and Ink Dialogues” —a highlight of the art exhibition—debuted as a cultural envoy at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University’s Thailand-China 50th Anniversary Art Show. This was no mere display; it was a bridge, weaving reed marsh folklore and Jiangnan’s elegance into the fabric of international exchange.

Through it, Thailand—and the world—saw Chinese local culture anew: not just “hometown charm” but cosmopolitan flair; not just rooted in tradition but building connections across civilizations.

This autumn, Shajiabang redefined itself—more than a “scenic spot,” it became a storyteller:
🍂 A crab banquet turned “watertown bounty” into a feast for the senses.
🎭 Folk experiences made Chinese culture tangible.
🌍 A transnational exhibit proved local heritage speaks a global language.

What we witnessed wasn’t just the joy of foreign guests—it was the vitality of China’s traditions:
Rooted at home, yet radiant on the world stage.
